About the College of Practice Professors

The College of Practice Professors is a peak body for professionals for whom knowledge and learning are key components of leadership. In most professional sectors in Australia, both information and technology – knowledge are central to competitiveness. Staff competitiveness-enhancing capabilities are acquired through the facilitated learning of new knowledge. Skills (or competency) training, by comparison, enables staff to effectively perform routine processes, but does not lead to differentiation, innovation or dynamic capabilities. Effective leaders must be adroit at driving capability development through learning. This requires a deep understanding of the learning and knowledge acquisition process, as well as being personally knowledgeable.

With this need in mind, the College has been established to support the development of learning leadership skills through unique and proprietary learning materials and an extensive personal development support environment. The College operates at the highest standards possible in all areas. The College principals have conducted years of research to establish the foundations of the College and have created a complete inventory of all of the capabilities a learning leader may possess. This inventory has been used to develop the College's diagnostic tools, personal development support services and learning materials which provide a distilled essence and practice-based exposure to these topics, in an engaging workshop format. All materials are delivered face-to-face (using appropriate technologies for participants outside the region) by highly trained presenters who have extensive personal experience and annually complete a rigorous updating process. The personal development support services (which are part of college membership) have been carefully developed to be entertaining, underpin this experience and combine to create the highest-quality learning experiences possible for discerning members.

Vision

The College combines the benefits of a peak body environment with the collegiality and openness of a knowledge-oriented professional community to provide a flexible and encouraging personal capability environment for all its members. The College's balance of networking, formal learning and achievement recognition provides the opportunity, resources and recognition of individual capability development. With the highest standards as their goals, members strive to become true leaders in their profession, and to provide an environment which encourages, facilitates and guides the individual development of each member.

Purpose

The College awards several qualifications, based on a proprietary framework developed to create individuals of exceptional leadership and professional capability. The College Code includes the values of collegiality and openness, along with the organisational and societal imperatives of leadership capability. The College expects that members will use their capabilities: for career development, other forms of professional endeavour (as board members or national or international experts) or in the development of other professionals.

History

The college has been developed from the principals' combined 50 years of experience and captures the essence of knowledge-based leadership. The concept for the college was originally developed in the years prior to COVID-19 and has been refined and developed through research and expert input, and practice since that time.
